| Hanagasa Odori Workshop
Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.
2:00pm - 3:00pm
Hanagasa dance workshop by New York Hanagasa Kai. Hanagasa Odori (Hanagasa
means Flower Hat and Odori means Dance in Japanese) is the traditional
Japanese festival dance practiced in Yamagata Prefecture in northern Japan.
New York Hanagasa Kai (Kai means Group in
Japanese) is a mixed group of all ages and nationalities, that gets together
to parade
at festivals
and other events. Anyone can join the group and It is an opportunity for
Japanese and Americans to mutually enjoy the Flower Hat Dance
Their
most popular event is the flower hat
dance parade which is performed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s “SAKURA
MATSURI”.

Symposium: Modern Noh Plays
Lincoln Center Festival
Yukio Ninagawa discusses his work and, in particular, the challenges of
directing Mishima’s Modern Noh Plays with John Gillespie, scholar,
critic, and translator of modern Japanese theatre and, formerly, director
of the Performing Arts Program at Japan Society.

All events in the Kaplan Penthouse require free passes for admittance.
These passes will be distributed, in the lobby of the Rose Building, starting

basis and will be limited to two per person. Doors open approximately 30
minutes prior to the event and seating is limited. Each symposium lasts
approximately one hour. Programs/participants are subject to change.

Our next meeting is September 26 at 7 pm. Our first title of the year is
Twinkle Twinkle (Kira kira hikaru) by Ekuni Kaoru.
We meet every other month on the fourth Monday. All meetings are at
Barnes & Noble on 6th Avenue @ 22nd Street.
